Schools Host Community Food Drives

DIAMOND BAR, CA-- Evergreen and Castle Rock Elementary Schools recently completed their annual food drives.

At Evergreen, each morning last week students brought canned goods and other non-perishable food items to school in participation of Evergreen’s Giving Tree Food Drive.  Over 400 food items, along with complete turkey dinners, will go to assist needy families during the Thanksgiving holiday. Evergreen Community Club parents assisted with the food drive included Joanna Flores, Yara Sands, Kathleen Strudwick, and Sue Swisher.

Castle Rock’s Student Council members organized a school-wide food drive held during the past two weeks. Teacher Mrs. Jeanne Winder advises the leadership group comprised of 4th and 5th graders.

Students said it felt good knowing their donations could make a difference.

“It’s nice to help others that need food for Thanksgiving,” said 5th grader Aleta Chang.

“It made me feel really happy because I got to help somebody else in my life,” said 5th grader Samantha Le.

Castle Rock Student Council members Samantha Le, Gabrielle Moran, Tiffany Chang, Brandon Liu, Aleta Chang, and Thomas Avila shown with a bounty of Thanksgiving donations.

Evergreen parents organized tables full of canned goods and non-perishable items for the Giving Tree Food Drive. Students autographed a thank you poster when they dropped off their donations.
