Checks Presented to High Schools
The Board of Directors of the Walnut Valley Water District recently presented checks to four high schools that participated in the 15th annual High Efficiency Toilet (HET) Distribution Program. At the May 22 meeting, Poster/Essay Awards and Solar Cup Recognition Ceremony, Walnut and Diamond Bar High School were among the area schools that each received checks in the amount of $1,870 for their participation in the HET Program.
The schools will give the funds to selected campus organizations. Board Members presenting the checks included Allen L. Wu, Ph.D., P.E., President; Ted Ebenkamp, Assistant Treasurer; and Scarlett Kwong, Director.
The Walnut Valley Water District, Metropolitan Water District, and Three Valleys Municipal Water District sponsored this water conservation event earlier this year when 374 high-volume toilets (HET) were provided at no charge to residential customers. Since 1997, over 8,000 HET’s have been installed within the District’s service area, as it continues to be an important part of the conservation efforts to address the ongoing drought conditions in California.
At the distribution event, students from the Diamond Bar, Diamond Ranch, Rowland, and Walnut High Schools provided assistance with customer registration and loading of the HET’s into customer vehicles. Each high school received $5 for every toilet that was exchanged.
Walnut High Instructional Dean Larry Holmes, Band Director Corey Wicks and Dr. Buddy Clements accepted the HET check during the 2012 Water Awareness Ceremony.
