Walnut High Community Partners and Super Star Students Honored
WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley Unified School District honored two star students and two community partners during the November 20 Board Meeting.
Walnut High senior Saam Foroshani was recognized as a Super Star Student. During Saam’s 10th grade year, he made a choice that resulted in a transfer to Ron Hockwalt Academies. While attending RHA, he knew that he wanted to return to a comprehensive high school, to graduate and go to college, explained Principal Jeff Jordan.
Through Saam’s self-determination, he has done everything possible to make-up grades and has diligently worked to complete the A-G requirements. Saam has applied to several Cal State’s with the hope of attending Cal State University, San Diego and major in Biology and then go on to pre-med.
“We are all proud of Saam and he is truly a success story. As educators, we all have a purpose in what we do each day. But at the end of the day, it’s people like Saam who remind us what our purpose is and that we can all make a difference,” Jordan said.
Senior Victor Chen was honored as a Super Star Student. He is involved with numerous activities at Walnut High, said Principal Jordan.
He is an IB Diploma candidate, has a 4.00 GPA and a member of the Varsity Cross Country team that recently won the Hacienda League Championship. Victor is a member of the National Honor Society and Amnesty International clubs. He is also the Vice President of Conferences on the award-winning Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club. He has been a FBLA State Champ and won 2nd Place at Nationals. Victor hopes to attend Stanford University and major in Management Science and Engineering.
“We are Impressed with Victor’s sense of balance in his life. He likes to hang out at the Walnut Village, likes to study, read, and to help out with the family business. He knows it’s not all about high-turbo 24/7 academics. And that’s why I think he’s going to be successful and we’re really proud of him,” Jordan said.
The Board of Trustees honored Walnut High volunteers Paula Tsukada and Howard Rescoe with the Partner in Education Award.
“As you know about four years ago, our co-curricular programs took a huge hit financially. We had many conversations about how we would be able to continue to provide opportunities for our Walnut High kids. These two parents are an example of the many volunteers throughout the district who have been willing to step up and assist. They have been supportive of Walnut High School and our football program,” said Jordan.
Paula continues supporting our athletes and coaches even after her son has graduated. She is instrumental with organizing and fundraising thousands of dollars so the football program can continue to compete and support our student-athletes.
Howard is an excellent asset to assist the coaching staff. He videos every game as well as practices for the coaches. He uploads the film for the coaches and players so they can review it on Huddle, an online viewing system. Howard also has made a website to advertise the football program.
“Both of these parents are very much appreciated for their support and commitment to WHS Football,” said Jordan.
